Hiking at Liakoura – Summit of Mount Parnassus (2457m)
Activity Description
Liakoura is the highest peak of Mount Parnassus and the 8th highest peak in Greece. According to mythology, its name derives from a variation of the word “Lykoreia,” meaning “the cry of the wolves.” One of the access routes to the summit — the one we follow — begins from the ring road coming from the Fterolakka area of the Parnassos Ski Center.
At first, we follow a gentle dirt road and then a trail that moves entirely through alpine terrain, crossing beautiful meadows that are still grazed today by the flocks of local shepherds. It is a surreal landscape filled with aromatic herbs, birds, and rare flowers that nestle among the rocks in order to survive so close to the mountain peaks.
As the hike continues, the rugged rocky terrain becomes dominant until we finally reach the summit at 2,457 meters, where we have the opportunity to admire the Euboean Gulf and the Corinthian Gulf, as well as the majestic peaks of Giona, Vardousia, Oiti, Kallidromo, Helicon, and — under ideal conditions — even Mount Olympus.
The return follows exactly the same trail back.
